Large Crates Upcycling

We recently finished up our local vintage market, Roses and Rust.

I asked Husband to take a look around the shed and yard
and see what he could come up with, using only what we had,
and this is his masterpiece!

It's technically a potting bench, but nice enough
to be dressed up, either inside or out.

This is what he started with, a large tile crate.

He turned it on its side and framed out the front.

Then he added some strips of wood to the shelves
and I stained them and washed grey and blue paint on some.

Looking for a top, we found this old twin headboard in the pile,
took out the center, painted it white and added chicken wire.

The front frame I painted white also,
but I decided to dry brush the sides.

It made a great centerpiece to the market booth
and was gone before I knew it!

Furniture Project: Red Cabinet

I LOVE this little red cabinet!

My husband found it at a yardsale and brought it home.

Right away I knew it had to be red; some pieces are just like that.
The color is Cranberry from Behr with a dark wax finish.

With chicken wire in the doors, it is a perfect place to store quilts and dishes.

And it fits perfectly in this corner of my new yellow family room!

Makes me happy every time I walk into the room!

Finished Kitchen Island

The kitchen island is finally complete. It's almost the last piece of the puzzle that is my kitchen.

This is the original look of the island, found in an empty apartment and needing some love.

I let the grandkids start the painting process.

Then I added chicken wire to the open doors. It originally had some screen, but it was all torn and ripped up when I found it.

It took months to find the right knobs, but I finally found ones I loved at Hobby Lobby. We don't have Hobby Lobby in California, but every once in a while, I remember to check them out online and I usually find what I am looking for. I need to remember them more often!

It is a great place to store my oversize bowls.

I think it looks really cute!

Once I get a new light fixture, the kitchen will be complete (at least for a while!) and I will give you a look at the whole package!
