Wedding Quilt

My last child got married a few months ago.

My daughter, my middle child, my independent, strong-willed child.

Finally!

And just like her, the wedding was

elegant, fun, beautiful and intimate.

When my boys got married, I made a quilt for each bride,

featuring their wedding colors and incorporating blocks

that are personal or representative in some way.

 For instance, the wreath surrounding the house

is not only traditional for wedding quilts,

it is also reminiscent of the olive branches that covered the tables

at their reception.

 The blocks that surround the house and wreath represent

the building blocks for their life together,

such as love and faith and joy...

They chose to have all the children in their life,

the groom's son as well as their nieces and nephews,

participate in the ceremony, and pinwheel blocks always

make me think of children.

I also like to add a note on the back that explains

the symbolic nature of the quilt and gives the dates,

so the quilt will become a keepsake for generations.

It's November, Happy Fall Decorating!

Fall has got to be my favorite season!

After the heat of the summer, I love the cool, crisp breezes,

the colors and the anticipation of the holiday season! 

I bought some new flowers and artichokes for the front door basket,

then added a thankful banner for November.

I know I said I love the colors of Fall,

but this year I went mostly neutral.

I think I wanted to keep things simple and relatively uncluttered

after a very busy and chaotic summer.

 The bell jars came out and were filled with dried pomegranates,

dried artichokes, and small pumpkins and gourds.

Wheat stalks and cotton stalks in white pitchers.

Neutral and simple.

I brought back my large window chalkboard,

but kept everything else simple on the mantle

with a lot of white candles and acorns.

 A grey-washed box with white pumpkins

amid a dresser filled with white dishes.

White flowers add pretty, while keeping it neutral.

Okay, I had to add some color!

I pretty much kept it confined to the family room, however,

which is already more colorful.

 The dining room stayed neutral with the white dishes

and white leaf garland.

This is my favorite table décor!

 This is what that same table looked like last weekend.

It's the reason my summer was so busy and chaotic.

My daughter got married!

And because she got married out of town,

we had a reception for friends and family

who were not able to attend.

It's also one of the reasons for the neutral color scheme,

the colors of her wedding.

But I love the neutrals and I am so thankful

for everything God has done this year!

Well, November totally got away from me!

Between the vintage market, birthdays and holidays,

I simply could not find time for one single post!

So, before the same can happen to December,

Christmas House Tour: Living Room

You've already seen the mantle, but I added some snowflakes

hanging from the ceiling.

So, let's see the rest of the room!

(You see the empty table under the window? Still need the tree!)

This Amish goose sits on the coffee table on a blue and green quilt!

I hung stars from the light fixture.

I really like how this looks and I will probably keep it this way for a while!

 

I count the entry as part of the living room.

I love these paper angel wings!

A friend made some last year and I copied hers!

I'm going to show you how to do it soon!

On the entry table, I brought in a little garden element,
sitting in front of my sign with the names of God.

 Added greens, candles and pine cones.

Pretty happy with the results, but I gotta go get that tree!

Christmas House Tour: Dining Room

This year I decided to go with black and white for the dining room
in honor of my new black light fixture and newly painted black chairs.

White quilt, black tray with white cyclamen flowers, black and white napkins.

White candles in hurricanes, tied with black and white fabric and stars.

And little wreaths tied onto the head chairs with black and white ribbon.






On the Welsh dresser, I went with a simple nativity inside a cloche
and silver vases with white candles.





The other side of the room also gets a little Christmas flair.

Once I started to set the table for Christmas dinner, I decided to change 

the white quilt and traded it out for a black and white tablecloth:

 More food-friendly!

I also decided to add a bit of color with the red napkins.

And this was the first year we did a kid's table:
