The Decorating is in the Details: Doors

The doors in this house are the typical hollow core doors found in most homes of this era.

 I hate them.

In our last house, we replaced them with the six-panel doors you find at Home Depot, the $25 ones. A step up, but also not my favorite.

I wanted something a little different this time. But everything I liked was really expensive, like over $100 expensive, especially times 8 doors.

I was trying to figure out how we could make something affordable when I saw something on Pinterest that changed my life (well, maybe I'm exaggerating just a little): beadboard wallpaper! I knew this was my answer.

I measured the doors and decided how big I wanted the panels to be: 18" x 34" . Then Husband miter cut some small trim and we glued them around the panels, calked and painted everything white.

I left the handles, just spray painted them with Krylon satin metallic spray paint, oil rubbed bronze.

Total cost per door: about $25!

Now I love them!

What decorating dilemma do you have that can be solved with just a little thinking outside the box?

  2. Nice! I think I've seen the beadboard wallpaper used in a bathroom once-it's amazing the things they've come out with that make beautiful decorating so much more affordable!

  3. Thanks! I think they are my favorite project in this house so far! Since then, I have used the wallpaper in the kitchen and on the family room ceiling! So much easier (and cheaper) than the big panels!
