Ugly Duckling Chair Turns Into A Swan

I picked up this little chair at a yard sale a while ago.

Cute little thing, but, oh so dated fabric!

Not to mention ugly!
But my daughter wanted it and picked out
some cute new fabric for it, so I went to work.

A little inspection showed up some screws that held the top pieces together,

and a few quick staples took care of piece # 1.

The finished back.

I had to poke through the fabric in order to screw on piece # 2 ;
a skewer worked well for the job!

I added a piece of foam to the seat to give it a lift
and stapled the new fabric into place.

Then I drove the new little chair up to Oregon to its new home!

Just goes to show, almost any chair is worth saving!

Blue and White Slipcovered Chair

Between a couple weeks of computer problems and getting ready for Roses and Rust, I haven't had much time to post lately. But with a new computer and most of the pieces ready or near ready, I will be sharing some of the projects that have kept me so busy lately!

I think this chair is my favorite! In fact, I may have trouble letting it go!

Here it is "before": good lines but a little dated and the wool fabric was itchy!

I absolutely loved this fabric when I saw it last fall.
I didn't know what I would do with it, but I had to have it!

I just laid it over the chair and began cutting it to size.

Then I started pinning.

I pinned along the the top.

I pinned along the sides,

I pinned the corners.

I folded everything so I could just top sew along side my pins
and not have to turn the fabric.

This ensures that you have a good fit.

I added white piping to the bottom only.

The fabric is a little busy, so I didn't want to add to it with too much piping

I added velcro to the sides so the cover could be taken off,

then some cute white buttons.

Love it from all angles!

Seeing Red!

I have been in a "red" mood lately.

It all started with a little red cabinet I painted last year.

Then my grandson and I were discussing the changes I was going to make to my "Grandkids' Room", and he asked me to paint the walls red because that was now his favorite color. Well, I couldn't commit to red walls, but I did promise to put a lot of red into the room.

So I painted some furniture pieces red.

First, this little bedside table that used to be black.

Then this little bookshelf  that was a dark brown.

Then I put them together to make one piece!

Really love how it came out!

I also painted this little chair red!

Here's a peek at the room, I can't wait to get it finished!

Furniture Project: Slipcovered Chair

I found this chair at a thrift shop and it has sat in my living room with various fabric pieces draped over it for almost a year. I considered slipcovering, upholstering, even painting the fabric.

I finally got around to making a decision,

and once I did, it only took a few hours to complete the project!

I decided to use another dropcloth to slipcover the chair and paint the wood white.

I wanted the pretty carved wood to show, so I made little strips to hold the pieces together.

This is the back, it's a little hard to see through the sign, but it's the only one I had.
I made sure all the pieces would fit tightly, like I do with a regular slipcover, and just sewed the strips every few inches on both sides.

Once I figured it out, it went together very quickly!

Furniture Projects: Vanity Chair

The day I came across the Deco end tables, I also found this little chair.
I might have passed it by, but it was a steal!

While I was painting the tables, I thought about what to do with this little chair.
I decided to coordinate it with the grey tables because the lines of the chair go really well with the lines of the tables.
So, grey it was!
I used the same technique as with the tables, dry-brushing white over the grey,
then wax on top of it all.
I went with a yellow and grey print for the cushion. I love the color combination of
yellow and grey!
