Show and a Wedding on the Same Weekend! Crazy!

This weekend was absolutely insane!

If I didn't love what I do, I just might need to be committed right about now!

The local vintage and antique market show, Roses and Rust, was originally scheduled for mid-March when I agreed to decorate and set up for my daughter's best friend's wedding in April. 

No problem, I thought.

Then Roses and Rust changed venues and dates: April 11-12; 

the wedding was April 13!

 

Ok, I knew it was going to be a little crazy, but at least the wedding was on Sunday, so I would be done with the show, and I knew I had great helpers, so...

 I am thoroughly exhausted!

But it was so fun!

"Grain Sack" Inspired Coffee Table

I picked up an assortment of tables at an estate sale recently.



Started with a coat of white paint,




but decided they needed something more.

So, I decided to paint a grey stripe down the middle.

Then I added smaller stripes on either side.

I like the curvy lines.

 And the stripes!

Kinda reminds me of a grain sack,

hence the name!

Furniture Project: Beautiful Vintage Round End Table

This cute little table was given to me because its owner didn't want it any more.

It had a beautiful shape and storage is always a plus!

Grey paint and white for the top and to highlight the details.

This was the original look; it had seen better days.

A beautiful robin's egg blue for the inside.

New fleur-de-lis knobs from Hobby Lobby.

Love it!

Roses and Rust: More Furniture Projects

My garage is so full of furniture, it's getting harder and harder to even get it it!
Less than 2 weeks 'till I can empty it for Roses and Rust!

Love clawfoot tables, especially painted white!

Pretty grey chairs.

They look great with the table!

These 2 chairs are really cute. They started out dark, but now are bright and cheerful!

Drop cloth seats with painted blue stripes!

Guest Room Reveal

It's finally finished! (if you want to see the before, click here)
Well, except for the crown molding, new closet doors and trim. But that's Husband's part.

I love the extra bookcase under the window that Husband built for me. It is a great place to store all those decorating and craft/quilt books.

It's great storage for a small room.

This little cabinet holds towels and guest supplies,

like little shampoos and lotions and even note cards.

I really love the white furniture against the grey walls.

All the color comes from quilts and accessories.

 I used a Battenburg lace shower curtain for the window, just hemmed it from the top.

Finished just in time for a visit from some of my favorite aunts!

Furniture Project: Painting a Family Antique

This beautiful antique quarter-sawn oak dresser was a gift from my parents on my 18th birthday.

It has been in my home for almost 40 years, and all of my kids have used it at one time or another. Lately it has been in my grandkids' room, so now this dresser has served 3 generations. 

I grew up in an era when you didn't paint good quality antiques and my parents spent quite a bit of change for this dresser. But, from time to time, I thought how cute it would look painted white.

But I wouldn't do it. I couldn't. It just wouldn't be right.

In fact, when Husband asked me if I had any problem painting this dresser, I told him I had been thinking about painting it for 20 years, so what did he think?

What finally made it okay for me? I realized that styles come and go and, even though I won't ever sell this particular dresser, if I were to sell it, it would probably sell faster and for more money at this particular time, if it were painted.

And if I'm not ever going to sell it, what difference does it make if I lower the value or raise it, as long as I like the result?

The white paint and some grey brushed on the edges really highlight the details of this pretty piece.

This dresser has such beautiful lines, and they stand out so much more now.

 
 Since some of the original knobs were broken, and they didn't fit as well after painting,

 I decided to order new ones from Hobby Lobby.
Small fleur-de-lis for the two little jewelry drawers,

 and larger ones that say "Paris" for the bigger drawers.
Love them!

This will look great in my new guest room, can't wait to get that room finished!
